Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters
Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters
Perform at Black History Dinner and Show
Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters organized in 1992. The Shouters embrace and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the Geechee legacy through song and dance. This group of dedicated men and women share the ring shout with the world and aim for authenticity. They are historic interpreters of the highest order and preserve a tradition that was thought to be extinct as recently as 1980. Historians believe the ring shout is the oldest surviving African performance tradition in North America. They have performed at numerous venues and festivals including the Smithsonian Anacostia Festival, Beaufort Gullah Festival and Sapelo Island Cultural Day Festival. The Mims Community Center #3 and the Willington African American Cultural Center proudly present the nationally known Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters at their Black History Dinner and Show on Saturday, February 2nd at 5pm.
