Total Eclipse of the Park Weekend - A Celebration of the Solar Eclipse 2017
On Monday, August 21, 2017, a total eclipse of the sun will be visible in parts of SC for the first time in almost 99 years! We will be celebrating this event at Hickory Knob State Resort Park all weekend. We do NOT sit in totality, but we are very close. Locations where the total eclipse can be viewed will be available at our front desk.
A ranger will be at our sister park, Baker Creek (5 miles) to direct those interested in viewing the total eclipse there during its 25-second window, but driving to Abbeville will afford a full two-minute eclipse. McCormick has a one-minute window and their library is hosting a viewing event with glasses. The bandwidth of the eclipse is only 60 miles with locations near Greenwood and Columbia having the longest duration.
Bring the family for this celebration of sun with weekend activities like swimming, golfing, boating, kayaking, skeet shooting, hiking, and fishing.
Commemorative Tee shirts will be on sale in our gift shop along with special safety glasses.
Enjoy a campfire under the stars in our amphitheater overlooking the Savannah River. WIFI is available at the Hickory Knob Lodge to tune in to NASA LIVE STREAM OR NASA TV to view the eclipse anywhere in its path. Don't miss it.
